Alkanet Root Powder: Alkanet root powder can be used to give you a lovely pinky purple colour. We like the little bits in our soap so we add Alkanet at trace, but if you are one of those people who don't like to wash with herbs, you can make an infusion with some of your oils and filter the bits out. Alkanet it an excellent PH indicator. As your soap cures you can actually see the colour turn from a slightly grey to an almost pinky purple. $1.80 per 30g $5.00 per 100g $22.50 per 500 g
Annatto Seed: Annatto seed is used to colour all sorts of products from cheese to butter. The seeds are coated with a paste like oil containing Bixin pigment. The seeds can be soaked in oil to remove the Bixin and then the seeds removed and the oil used to make soap. $1.50 per 30g $4.00 per 100g $18.00 per 500g
Annatto Seed Powder:
Annatto seed powder is used in the same way as the annatto powder, but it is just the bixen, and that means it is much more concentrated. $1.98 per 30g
$5.50 per 100g $10.00 per 250g
Carrot Tissue Oil:
This maybe a bit of overkill to get a yellow color in soap, but the color is so nice and sunny I couldn't resist. Carrot Tissue Oil is really an oil extract of carrot tissue pigments. Sap value 135
$2.40 per 30 ml $5.40 per 100 ml $19.50 per 500 ml
Madder Root Powder:
½ teaspoon of madder root per pound of oils added to your water before you add the lye will give you an antique rose color. $1.68 per 30g $4.50 per 100g $19.00 per 500g
Rattanjot Oil: This infusion is added at trace to get from a light lavender to a dark purple. Because Rattanjot is infused in oil, take out about 1 oz of oil out of your recipe to balance your lye/fat ratio. $2.38 per 2 oz $3.88 per 4 oz
Rattanjot Powder: If you want to make your own rattanjot infusion this is the powder that you would use. Slowly warm 6 tablespoons of rattanjot in 24 oz of the oil of your choice, strain through four layers of cheese cloth or a coffee filter and add to your soap at trace. This is a very strong infusion, so you need very little. 84¢ per 30g $2.50 per 100 g $6.00 per 250g
Synthetic Indigo: This color is a bit pricey, but it gives you a beautiful natural looking blue. Use between 1/8 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon per pound but this is a very light powder, so 30 grams is a good amount to experiment with. Keep in mind the color of your natural soap base as this colorant takes on a greenish ting in a yellowy base. I did notice that when it was first poured it seemed a bit greenish, but it developed over the next few days to a lovely blue. $10.50 per 30 g $18.72 per 60 g $28.30 per 100 g
Natural Indigo: Natural indigo is less expensive than the synthetic version, but it is also not as strong. I would still recommend between 1/8 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon per pound. $7.29 per 30 g $13.50 per 60 g $22.00 per 100 g
Stevia Powder: Add 1 tablespoon of stevia per pound of oils to your soap at light trace for a medium green color. Infusing a bit of stevia in your oils will also give you a rich color. $2.49 per 30 g $6.00 per 100 g
Ultramarines: Ultramarines are used to color soap in pastel or darker richer colors.
Ultramarine Pink $4.32 per 30 g $13.00 per 100 g
Ultramarine Violet $3.54 per 30 g $10.00 per 100 g
Ultramarine Blue $1.68 per 30 g $5.30 per 100 g
